The Human Rights Committee is concerned with the protection and promotion of human rights. It is the work of the Human Rights Committee to constantly encourage the international community and its member States to uphold universally agreed human rights standards. The committee covers issues regarding a broad range of internationally accepted rights, including: economic, social and cultural, as well as political and civil rights. The main themes addressed are: bioethics, civil and political rights, freedom of opinion and expression, minority rights, racism, women’s rights and many more. The committee’s values are based on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights adopted by the UN in 1948.
