Security Council (SC)

In 1992, the Security Council held its first ever meeting at Headquarters. The Security Council consists of 15 member states which deal with complaints concerning a threat to peace primarily by peaceful means. The CSUNA Security Council (SC) has a large responsibility under the Charter to maintain international peace and security. The Council may investigate, mediate, and appoint special representatives to deal with the complaints. Violence is brought to an end as soon as possible, for example, issuing cease-fire directives and sending peace-keeping forces to help reduce tensions in troubled areas. The Security Council may also decide on economic sanctions, enforcement measures, or collective military action. Among the UN itself, the Security Council may vote to suspend or expel a nation with reason.
